Empty Nest An exhibition by a member

January 20 @ 10:00 am - February 1 @ 4:00 pm

Tasha Button is a Multidisciplinary Artist who is having her inaugural solo exhibition
at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre in Hornsby. Emotional feelings of parenthood
are explored through moments in time, using different media to synchronize the motif
of The Empty Nest.

The Empty Nest is an art experience which has grown from a life journey of raising children
and making art. The exhibition from 20th January to 1st February at Wallarobba Arts and
Cultural Centre (WACC), is aptly housed in the old 1903 home which was converted into a
gallery by Hornsby Shire Council in 2011. The Empty Nest is both a stroll down memory lane
and an emotional experimental approach with different art forms. The concept of The Empty
Nest developed from inward spiritual exploration of the artists’ journey of transitions and
time, through reading “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron and spending time in Camellia
Studio to develop works based on the parental condition of sequential change and
transformation. Tasha has been culturally influenced by Australian, Japanese and French art
styles which manifest in her art making. Using drawing as a springboard, Tasha has created
artworks that are timeless, contemporary and fun. From traditional oil paintings,
contemporary acrylic paintings, printmaking, oil pastel, found nature, installation,
photography, sculpture and plastic reusable packaging Tasha has examined many art styles to
incorporate meaning in her work. Connection and experience of the natural world is a
recurring element in her artmaking. She is surrounded by the trees and wildlife of the
beautiful Ku-Ring-gai Chase National Park where she has used random weaving as a basis
for making forms. Her light-hearted installations fragment the joys of childhood of
wonderment and awe in the simplicity of nature and naivety. Reflecting on the emotions of
parenthood; raising children and then letting go, has feelings of both sadness and hopeful joy
for their futures and continuous weaving of generational nurturing journeys. Focussing on
The Empty Nest; literally as an empty nest, using the earth colours of nature, ochres, grass
greens and vivid blues for growth and grounding in her multi-disciplines, Tasha delivers a
unique experience for all.

The Empty Nest is on at Wallarobba Arts and Cultural Centre 25 Edgeworth David Avenue,
Hornsby, NSW from 20 January – 1 February, 2026. Hours are from 10am – 4pm, 7 days.
