The Hornsby Art Society
Supporting the Visual Arts in Hornsby since 1963
Hornsby Art Society (HAS) is a non-profit community organisation, with a committee of volunteers actively promoting and facilitating the development of the visual arts and a cultural presence within the Hornsby Shire. We warmly welcome new members who are artists or who have an interest in the arts, and who share this vision.
HAS organises regular group exhibitions for all local artists focusing on particular themes such as the natural environment, the human form or community heritage or for particular mediums or artforms. To showcase the talents of our members and volunteers, we conduct annual Member and Volunteer Exhibitions. HAS has a comprehensive program to develop, support and promote exhibitions by established or emerging artists in either solo or group exhibitions.
To encourage the next generation of Hornsby artists, as part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2014 we initiated the Hornsby Young Artists’ Competition. This event, open to 5-18 year old artists, is held each year in April to coincide with Youth Week. Each year we partner with Hornsby Shire Council in the delivery of Remagine, showcasing art from waste, held in June and the Hornsby Art Prize held in November.
Hornsby Shire is home to a growing variety of artists working in a range of different artforms from traditional painting through to digital design. In turn, Hornsby Art Society continues to develop – providing support for artists in all facets of the visual arts. We are grateful for the support of Council, of local artists and our extended network of supporters and friends. We are also appreciative of the ongoing support from our patrons – Kasey Sealy, Ursula Laverty, Margaret Woodward and the Mayor of Hornsby.
